2009/2010 Honors and awards:
Luke Derochers STAR student for East Jackson Comprehensive
High School. Derochers, son of John and Karen Derochers, selected
U.S. History teacher Denise Backus as his STAR teacher. Derochers,
who is captain of the EJCHS band and academic team, plans to pursue

Melissa Spinelli, a Sophomore trombone player in the East Jackson
HS Band has auditioned and been chosen to attend the Governor's
Honors Program at Valdosta State College. She will attend an
all-expense paid conservatory environment for the gifted and talented
students in all subject areas. Melissa will attend in Instrument Music.
